Letter to the Editor: Support for Amy Chen

I can’t remember the last time La Cañadans saw a water board seat on a ballot. We have our first chance in decades to vote on this really important and timely water situation.

One of the two candidates was appointed to fill a vacancy on the board earlier this year. So now, it’s time for voters to decide who’s best for a full term. And a candidate has stepped up who has the specific education and 40 years of exactly the experience that this job, this time, calls for.

Amy Chen has been in water her whole adult life. She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering from USC, starting out working on water distribution systems and operations, all the way up to advising San Diego County Water Authority policymakers and its representatives on the Metropolitan Water District Board on actual water policy. This kind of experience is specifically what this position demands at this time.

She and her husband raised Justin here, and she knows water is about the biggest issue facing us. Water’s availability, control, storage, and price impact public safety, and what life in our town will be like in the future. This is no time for politics as usual. Amy Chen is the right choice for this position now.
